Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh…………………… Sunday :)

It’s time again to run Overlook Park. This workout promises to be fun and challenging. For anyone interested, Overlook Park offers easy access to the lake, so bring your towels for a refreshing cool-down swim.

We’re meeting in the lower parking area at 8am and will start with a quick warm up loop. After the warm up, we’ll end up back at the cars and restrooms. From there we’ll do our drills and will be well on our way to the challenging/fun portion of the workout.

You Know It, You Love It ………..

Tejas Park!

This is a fast & beautiful section of the Goodwater Loop Trail. We’ll be doing our standard 30 minute out-n-back Tejas workout. This means that you run only as far as you’re able. If you’re not able run, then walking/hiking is a great way to get some time on the trail. All skill & fitness levels are welcomed.

We’ll park by the restrooms and start off with a quick warm-up, followed by trail drills, and then we’re off and running the scenic South shore of Lake Georgetown.

And now ………….

Let’s try this again, shall we?

This Sunday, 8am,  we’re heading to Cedar Breaks Park. This beautiful section of trail is great for honing your technical trail running skills. It’s also a great trail to take in some spectacular views of the lake (I recommend stopping and looki…ng vs. running and looking).

We will meet at the start of the trail, which is the 1st left past the main gate. Tell the park attendant that you’re going on the Goodwater trail and they shouldn’t charge you an entrance fee. However, I’ve experienced a range of responses based on who is running the gate. Worst case scenario, the entrance fee is only $4.00.

When it rains …………

Good morning GTR.  Today’s run is cancelled due to the storm.  The lightening is really heavy and with this amount of rain, soil erosion will be bad enough without our help. We’ll return next Sunday to a greener trail!

Brooks PureProject Grit – Shoe in Review

Ok. So I promised a review of the Brooks PureProject Grit. Here we go:

Pure Grit, Pure Love

On first run, I have nothing but good things to say about this shoe! At 8.9oz, this shoe is lighter than most for trail. Definitely not “clunky”. The sole, though not very thick, offers plenty of protection for the foot and boasts a healthy collection of lugs to get you dug in. The heal wrap is stiff, and combined with the overall wrap of the upper hugs the foot nicely. The Grit offers an elastic over the lace/tongue band, I’m assuming to help prevent slippage, but my feet are too thin for it to help.  That being said, I didn’t experience any issues with slippage. If you’re prone to tripping, it should be noted that there are no rock-stops on the toes. Oh yeah, and they’re totally comfy!

Those of you that know me, know that I LOVE my Brooks ASR7s. I experience hot spots on my feet and they’ve never let me down at an acceptable distance. Our home trail is very technical in spots with alot of volcanic rock, limestone, cactus, Cedar roots, etc. The PureProject Grit held up exceptionally well! No spots, and they laughed at the terrain! I’m really going to enjoy putting in the miles in this shoe. I need to get a second pair, but they’re already on back-order! Brooks Sports does it again!!  RUN HAPPY!

Cedar Breaks with Ashli

Ahhh ……. hunting season. Lake Georgetown is not all Army Corp land. Some of it is “individually” owned. That being the case …. hunters on the West end. That being the second case ……….
